I'm About To Snap!

Green Beans that is!

Every other night we are snapping green beans.  John Arlie thinks it's fun and we hope he continues to think it's fun since we have a trillion more to do!  He is such a good helper.  This may not look like a lot but in just one night we had enough to can 17 quarts!  Whew!  But we are not complaining one bit.  We hope and pray that the garden will do good and grow abundantly through the season.  We know that anything could happen so we definitely realize the helping hand of God.  I hope todays storms won't damage stuff too bad.  Fingers crossed!

Here's Eddie looking and picking tomato worms off our tomato plants.  As you can tell John Arlie is VERY interested in doing that!  What boy wouldn't be?!

My mom and dad have done this for years....My Dad tills the rows and between the plants so that there is never any weeding having to be done.  They are so smart!

See all this corn?  Well that's not all the corn. Look to your right (toward the back shadows).  Yeah that's more corn.  Also there is more corn on the left of the garden (not shown).  You don't even want to see how many green bean plants we have in there.  We have a combined garden with my parents. It makes it easier on both families this way budget wise and labor wise.  Anyway Eddie and Dad decided to plant A LOT of corn and green beans.  I was outside walking the garden with Dad when the topic came up.  I just said kinda passively "wow we have a lot of beans and corn" and he said "well, you know with all this bpa stuff in cans we need to grow whatever and 'put up' whatever we can.  That tickled me (but i didn't let dad see that).  My dad is not one of those people who get all crazy over every little thing that comes on the news about bpa or cancerous sunscreens or hormone laced meats (like his oldest daughter does...hey!....i can't help it!).  He is a smart man though and listens to counsel, like all the talks we've been given about growing gardens and canning or preserving whatever we pull out of there.  I see clearly more and more of why we are counseled to do this.  It's quite obvious.  I love my Dad's good example and his unwavering obedience.  He's a wonderful person.  Without him and my mom, Ed and I wouldn't be able to share a garden this huge or many other things.  My parents are great down to earth people.  I love it that we are family, neighbors, AND friends.
